I have discovered that there is an unsecured wireless network in High Leigh Conference Centre in Hoddesdon, where I have been staying since yesterday. It doesn't seem to like sending emails over it, but receives them fine. So, apologies to the 24 emailers that I have tried to reply to tonight- you'll have to wait for a reply, I'm afraid.
The highlight of the conference has been spending time with Rev. Raniere Oliveira, one of the 32 ministers who were, along with their bishop, Rt. Rev. Robinson Cavalcanti, deposed from their parishes and diocese, in Recife, Brazil. This followed their opposition to the appointment of Gene Robinson as bishop of New Hampshire. It's a tragic story, and the deposing seems to have been done with great malice. Raniere is a gentle man, committed to serving and working with the poor. It has been very moving as I've listened to him speak. It seems likely that such disruption will continue to occur around the world.
Over drinks tonight, I shared my (forlorn) hope that one day, Scotland might play football like Brazil. Strangely, he laughed at my hope!
