Increased frustration at the unwillingness of bishops to both offer clear teaching and facilitate local church ministry, has led to the events outlined here.
I was able to share at the Reform conference this week, and it was obvious that many people there believed that now is a time for action, and not only words.
Sadly, I suspect that this will not be the last time churches challenge their bishop's authority like this.
I hope it's not the last time. Southwark has adamantly refused to ordain clergy to Dundonald for years despite their real need. They're by far and away the most successful church in the diocese, numbers-wise, but I suspect his real problem is that they're one of the most clear gospel-wise.
Kudos to all those supporting this move.
