I'm experimenting with advertising via Google Adsense, as this blog costs money to run. My hope is that the ads will pay for the annual cost. We'll see. Perhaps other bloggers running ads could comment on their experience?
Hopefully the ads will be appropriate. The "Antichurch" one gave me a laugh (though it did make me wonder if this blog comes over as being such?!). The "Find sexy friends in Glasgow" one got me very worried indeed. Hopefully the ads won't detract from the overall feel of the blog.
I'm glad to see ICC getting in there and the Church of England Newspaper too. Even Mosaic are advertising. Might need to filter them out (only kidding!).
I wonder if the ads are contributing to a rise in hits yesterday and today, especially as I've been way too busy to blog since Saturday.
On a different note entirely, my activities this week activities might include:
Christmas/Carol Service Talks - 3
Other Sermons - 1
Vestry Meetings - 1
Other meetings - several
Lunches Out - 2
Birthdays (Yesterday I turned 34. Oops, got that the wrong way round. It's actually 43. I know what you are thinking: he doesn't act/look/think so old, does he?) - 2 (my mum's is on Thursday)
Parties - 2
People to see - quite a few.
Christmas shopping.............thank you, Lord, for the interweb!
I had actually been thinking about the advertising thing yesterday and then saw it on your blog...i'll wait and see how it works out! On the Christmas shopping front I have got in touch with the e-bay-er within and bought the fruit trees album...but not saying who for!

Let's be clear here, so that the public understands. The so-called 'Fruit Trees', is in fact, 'The Fratelli's'.
Reminds me of the principal of my theological college who would wander through the common room while the students were watching 'Top of the Pops'. He would peer at the screen, then ask, "Is that a man or a woman?"
In the words of the mighty Huey Lewis and the News, 'It's hip to be square'.

Better be quick with t'internet shopping...What with the heavy weather we've been having I predict large postage delays (more people buying online, fewer trucks getting through etc...)
That fruit trees album sounds great. I'm particularly fond of the snow pothole and snoopy dog dog, myself.

Happy birthday!
Yes, laughed at the "Anti-church" advert too! How come your blog costs money? Mine is with WordPress and is free. Is there a free one you could move to?
Failing that, there must be some more suitable companies that could advertise on your blogs - eg companies run by St Silas members, ecclesiastical clothing people, music equipment folk... or perhaps other churches? :)

I use wordpress for free, does everything I want including static pages and password protected areas.
I would like a way of backing this up because if Wordpress did decide to pull the service I wouldn't like to loose or have to re-do everything but I would worry about that with a paid for service as well.

Hey Vicar. How much does it cost per year?

Thanks for the free advert Dave (BTW, we prayed for you yesterday). Checking Mosaic's website stats, I see we had a number of visitors from your site! I think we could each 'advertise' through our respective blogs and refer people to the church sites for free. However, this would be the circulation of the saints through cyberspace so better not promote that as a form of outreach! Seriously, I find our google advert not to be doing anything other than referring people from London to our site. I think we as a community have found it better to relegate advertising way down on the priority list and increase our outreach through relationships - incarnational rather than cyberlational. Save the few quid to get another album...for your wife that is. Blessings, Mike

I've thought about the whole advertising thing and decided against it. In a world that is saturated with advertising it's nice to be able to interact with people in a sphere where there is no advertising. I'm not saying that advertising on your blog is wrong, but I'd hate to see the blogsphere become like everywhere else and face advertising where ever we go!
