Another busy Saturday.
This time it was:
9.30 am True freedom Trust were meeting at St Silas' for a day conference for members. I was due to speak at 2pm.
9.30am Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship Scottish Council were meeting at the International Christian College.
You can see my problem there - I'm habitually trying to be in two places at the same time. Not an easy task for anyone.
I opened up the building for the TfT people, then went on to the UCCF council meeting. There I learned that the Scottish National Union of Students were also meeting today in the TUC building behind St Silas'. On their agenda was a motion to ban the PURE Course from campuses around the country. So much for freedom of speech, thought and lifestyle. How deliciously ironic that the TfT conference was on the subject of 'The Godly Sexual Identity'. I haven't heard yet how the NUS vote went.
At 12pm, I went to the funeral service for George Cooke at Findlay Memorial. He battled bravely against Motor Neurone Disease. He died on Wednesday. I'd got to know George when he took on the Friends International work in Glasgow. St Silas' support this important work and George was always a delight to be around. He'll be sorely missed, not least by Ellen, his wife and their family. But his many friends in the Christian community in Scotland will miss him too, as was evidenced by the large number of people who gathered to remember him. As was said today, his life since the diagnosis was the most important sermon he ever preached.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
