On the subject of Wayne's World, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was played as we socialised on Friday night, and several of our younger members headbanged and sang along. I am too shy and reserved to behave in such a way.
But then I put on a few more golden oldies that I thought everyone would know. To my surprise, only three of us knew this track (air guitars at the ready please!):
Which got me thinking of how many classic songs will not be remembered in the future? Lynyrd Skynrd's 'Freebird' was from a listening generation before me. I would have been seven years old when it was first written and ten by the time fully developed versions were being recorded. Yet I knew the song and marvelled at it. I remember seeing this version on the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1975.
Sadly, several members of the band seen in this video are dead (the singer Ronnie Van Zandt, guitarist Steve Gaines plus several other members of their team in a plane crash in 1977; Allen Collins the guitarist in white died in 1990 following complications brought on after a car crash paralysed him from the waist down a few years earlier).
Is it too late for me to pick up a guitar, learn to play it and become a guitar hero?
Watch 'Freebird' the movie. Classic vintage footage from Knebworth in 1974, recent editions have the tribute concert/tour documentary included.
The knebworth concert is interesting as it gives a good insight into mid seventies rock fashion...
Funny, i just bought the dvd about a month ago!

I could teach you to pick up a guitar in no time at all. The second two are a bit trickier.
I think Jenny's looking for a worship air guitar player though.
