Not sure it was overlooked; a number of papers quoted Paul's infamous "Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home?" response to a Playboy journalist asking if he was ever tempted to stray. Gore Vidal (close friend of Newman, as mentioned in today's Times commentary on his passing) recounted the story of a chaplain making a pass at Newman whilst he was, in an effort to improve his mind, reading Nietzsche

Newman : That really put me off
Vidal: Christianity or homosexuality?
Newman : Nietzsche

Interestingly, Vidal was also with his partner for half a century.

Great line!

movie fan

it's hard not to admire Paul Newman for putting his money to work in such productive ways, such as his Newman's Own line--high quality stuff and the proceeds go to good causes... very smart.
