The trials of building have begun. Tomorrow our gas supply has to be turned off to allow for the continuation of foundation work. That would be fine if we could have the meter moved to a new position, but unfortunately the two companies involved can't get their act together, so it appears that we'll be without heat or cooking facilities for up to a month. But, never fear, we are working on options............
Ooh, I take it this means that the housegrope I frequent can't - as planned - help out at catering for this week's Alpha? Short of a thunderbolt incinerating one of those Alpha questionnaire posters, what greater sign of God's disapproval could their be?

Kirkie Baptist had their building programme delayed for weeks because of gas supply moving delays. Hope you have more success.

Sandwiches, flasks and wrapping up warm might be our best option. And maybe some hot water bottles.

Ryan, not surprisingly your comment may be taken as insulting both to those from your group who were so keen to help and to the many who give so generously of their time and resources to make Alpha - at St Silas and beyond - the tool it has been in the advancement of the Kingdom.
Your inability to resist the temptation to consistently churn out such comments shows a lack of love and respect for your church family and saddens me greatly.

Ryan,
Negativity alert!

Nick -
No, it doesn't; haven't my egroup comments moderated (and rewritten to espouse a regard for creationism I don't hold) is bad enough, and I think David is big enough do decide what comments warrant inclusion on his blog. Nor do I need you to speak for my fellow housegroup members (have already joked about it with some of them); although perhaps if you told them the importance of Being Offended to Church discipline they might get with the programme. And you really must stop this nonsense of taking every (joking!) comment that can be construed as critical as some kind of attack on the church family or Christianity itself. Is liking Alpha a "salvation issue" now? Render unto me a break, please.

Ryan - you are right about David and the comments he allows on his blog, but I am also entitled to my opinion and my opinion stands. Plus, I do not 'speak for your house group colleagues' when I say that your comment "May be taken as insulting..." by them, hence "May".

Ryan, you're not always as funny as you think- I totally get why you dislike and don't value Alpha, and your belief that it sells the gospel short by using outdated methods to offer "proof" in your opinion.
But I put it to you that, however flawed, Alpha is working for some people some of the time, and is bringing more non-Christians and lapsed-Christians to faith than your cynicism ever will.
I totally understand that evangelism is not your thing, but please accept (as you often ask others to) everyone is not the same.
If I suggested that a power failure was a sign from God that LGB meetings were displeasing to Him, can you imagine that might offend someone from the LGB group?
In short, Alpha has value, even if you don't think so. Just as Christian LGB has value to you, even though others may not think so.
I love Alpha, and am grateful for God's presence in it, and to all those who facilitated it for me. I get that you don't, but please stop denying God is in it. You're sounding like a fundamentalist...
