Surge in trans children changing names to opposite sex
It’s ironic that schools busily teach respect of others, the importance of non-harassment and that sexism is wrong, yet young women are still horribly objectified. Media and advertising teaches them to dress and act in a certain way, while boys learn about sex from online porn and expect girls to offer what they see on their devices.
Could this media-influenced objectification make young women feel that they are worth less than young men? Maybe they come to believe that it would be better to identify as male as men hold all the cards? Is it possible that social contagion is causing the phenomenon detailed in the article above?
The Church needs to be the light in this - women and men are equal and different. We can celebrate that equality and difference. We can truly value each other and build one another up (this is the foundation for great relationships).
If only we will shout out loudly that sex is the supreme giving of oneself to another and that it is not merely physical but reflects spiritual union.
Being a girl is not about colours or certain toys and being a boy is not about being dominant.
There is a better way.
Glad you're back. Whatever we face, Jesus had it tougher. And He's got this 😊
It interests me that there seems to be a resurgence in gender neutral names, some good old fashioned neglected ones are reappearing.
I don't understand the need to change gender, but the search for a secure identity is not new. Neither is the answer. We need to speak up as often as the money hungry media that feeds on insecurity and image. We need to be just as hungry in prayer and compassion.
Fighting a giant but no slingshot.
Blogging is a tool that reaches wide. I'm really glad you're back.
Not least because now I have links to send when I don't know what to say 😂
